With the disruption in the healthcare industry over the past few years, it’s clear the need for scalable PCR testing has never been greater. As part of its commitment to improving healthcare by developing, manufacturing and marketing accurate, easy-to-use molecular systems and tests, Cepheid wanted to reimagine B2B digital commerce through a streamlined purchasing process of its Xpert PCR tests. Cepheid joined forces with EPAM to launch a new multilingual eCommerce platform that leverages commercetools called MyCepheid in just six months. Healthcare professionals now have real-time access to product information, stock availability and order status and can place orders in two minutes from anywhere in the world —enhancing flexibility and scalability of best-in-class testing systems.

FROM CHALLENGE TO CHANGE

Enabling Access to Molecular Testing Everywhere

Cepheid is a leader in molecular diagnostics, improving healthcare through fast and accurate PCR testing for almost 30 years. As part of the Danaher Corporation, Cepheid has rolled out innovative technologies and delivered world-class PCR testing for a range of health conditions, including healthcare-associated infections, women's health, sexual health, blood virology and respiratory infections. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for reliable testing solutions surged like never before. Hospitals, clinics and both mobile and stationary laboratories needed to carry out PCR testing for COVID-19 quickly and extensively. To address the urgent need for effective solutions, Cepheid set out to create a streamlined eCommerce platform to enhance the purchasing experience for clinical institutions of any size — from small medical clinics to high-volume reference laboratories and major hospitals. To build a digital cloud-hosted solution supported by composable architecture that was easy to implement and adaptable to the diverse needs of the global market, Cepheid engaged EPAM for its deep life sciences, migration and composable commerce expertise as well as its experience and strong partnership with both commercetools and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

As part of its digital experience initiative, Cepheid also engaged EPAM to migrate its legacy content management system (CMS) to Adobe Cloud with the goal of supporting its global customers with modern digital marketing capabilities for content and experience management. Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) was integrated with Cepheid’s commerce and user APIs to provide a better user experience and seamless navigation across its experience marketing platforms.

In just six months, Cepheid launched a full set of eCommerce capabilities. This achievement established a new standard for B2B digital commerce in healthcare, demonstrating how a composable commerce strategy can accelerate access to essential supplies while remaining adaptable to global challenges. In 2024, Cepheid received a commercetools 2024 Customer Award for Best Healthcare/Pharma Project for this successful solution.
