Silo Busting 66: Operating in Ukraine with Stepan Mitish and Elaina Shekhter

Doing a first-class job is difficult under the most normal of circumstances. But can you imagine doing so as your country is being invaded? Stepan Mitish, VP and Head of Ukraine, has lived this very scenario. In an unforgettable conversation with Elaina Shekhter, EPAM’s Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer, he shares the dramatic details. As the war began, Mitish was orchestrating 15,000 employees that had to work as one. He says that after a week, “I was afraid to start hearing a lot of complaints from our clients about failed delivery, non-delivery in services.” Instead, clients wrote to him “praising our teams for working days and nights and even delivering planned releases.” Mitish talks about the superb teamwork that enabled this to happen and concludes that “the worst, worst days are already behind us.” He is now advocating for clients, and future clients, to support Ukraine by bringing more business there.
