Blending Experience and Exploration: Working & Traveling at EPAM 

Meet Aziz Imomnazarov, an experienced Software Quality Engineer whose journey with EPAM began nearly three years ago. Beyond his technical prowess, Aziz is an avid traveler who sought a professional path that seamlessly blended with his passion for exploring diverse cultures. He has lived and worked in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkiye, and the list of countries he has visited as a tourist is even longer. Aziz shares how his experience managing a successful technical career blends with his passion for travel. 

What attracts you to a flexible work lifestyle?

This lifestyle aligns perfectly with my love for travel, allowing me to forge new connections, immerse myself in various languages and embrace the richness of diverse cultures. Flexible or hybrid remote and office work has been a game-changer for me, especially during unforeseen situations that demand a flexible work schedule, enabling me to balance family commitments and professional responsibilities harmoniously. 

Does your role allow flexible working hours? 

During my tenure at EPAM, I had the privilege of working on various projects with flexible working hours. The company policy dictated that I complete my daily work hours, but the schedule was otherwise adjustable to my needs. This flexibility allowed me to maintain a healthy work-life balance and made it easier for me to manage my personal commitments alongside work. 

How do you manage traveling with work commitments? 

Before I go on my travels, I make sure to discuss my plans with my manager and team. I provide a clear outline of my work schedule during the travel period, considering any time zone differences. Additionally, I research and identify suitable workspaces in my new locations, such as coworking spaces, Airbnb or hotels with good internet connections and amenities that allow me to work remotely. 

Does the rest of your team work similarly to you, or are they based in offices? 

Our team is geographically distributed across six countries – Türkiye, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, India and the USA. Despite the distance, we work collaboratively and effectively as a team, thanks to our flexible working arrangement. Each member of our team works from their own location, which allows us to be flexible and agile in our work. 

How do you stay connected with your colleagues and work mates while you work and travel? 

Our team employs different communication tools to stay connected and updated. One of these is Microsoft Teams, which allows us to communicate efficiently through instant messaging, audio calls and video conferences. We also use Jira, a project management software, to track our tasks, monitor progress and resolve any issues that may arise. Lastly, we utilize our corporate email to send official announcements, updates or important messages that require formal communication. These tools enable us to work collaboratively, share information and achieve our goals effectively while travel. 

What motivated your decision to choose EPAM as your workplace, and how has the experience been so far? 

EPAM stood out to me due to its unique job offer—allowing the opportunity for a flexible work lifestyle with continuous personal and professional development. In my years with EPAM, I have never second-guessed my decision. The supportive environment and encouragement for exploration make EPAM more than just a workplace; it's a community that fuels personal and professional aspirations. 

Can you share your perspective on living in Izmir and how it complements your lifestyle? 

I was drawn to this city by its delightful climate, the warm hospitality of its residents and the overall relaxed atmosphere. Izmir offers a unique blend of being able to relish the vibrant nightlife of a bustling city while being surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty.  

What advice would you give someone who wants to combine travel and work? 

I recommend embracing the unknown with an open heart and a curious mind. Understand that each destination brings a new set of challenges and joys, so it’s important to plan your work and travel with flexibility, allowing room for unexpected discoveries.
