Senior Data Scientist Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist with expertise in building machine learning models for image analytics.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data science, particularly in the development and deployment of models for analyzing and extracting insights from images. They should possess solid foundations in Computer Vision Theory and image processing libraries, preferably with geospatial feature extraction. Key competencies include proficiency in machine learning algorithms, deep learning frameworks, and image processing techniques, along with a solid understanding of raster, vector, and geo-spatial data formats and transformations.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and objectives for image analytics projects
- Collect, preprocess, and clean image data to prepare it for analysis and modeling
- Develop and implement machine learning models and extraction algorithms for image processing, feature extraction, and vectorization
- Evaluate model performance and iterate on model designs to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
- Deploy machine learning models into production environments and integrate them with existing systems or applications
- Conduct research and stay updated on advancements in image analytics, machine learning, and related fields
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members on image analytics projects
- Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders through reports, presentations, or visualizations
Requirements
- Strong programming skills in Python or alternatively C++
- Proven experience with object detection and feature extraction on Computer Vision projects
- Strong understanding of deep learning frameworks, machine learning algorithms, and Computer Vision theory
- Develop and implement machine learning models and algorithms for image classification, object detection, segmentation, and other image analytics tasks
- Proficiency in image processing with computer vision libraries and frameworks (OpenCV, Pillow, SIMD, BLAS)
- Familiarity with geospatial libraries and frameworks (e.g. GDAL / OGR, GeoPandas, RSGISLib, RasterIO)
- Knowledge of geo-spatial data formats for both vector and raster data
- Ability to collect, preprocess, and clean image data to prepare for analysis and modelling
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
- Effective communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with geo-spatial feature extraction in project-related work
- Experience deploying applications on Google Cloud Platform and related GCP services
- Experience with geospatial data visualization tools (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS, Leaflet)
- Experience with transfer learning, fine-tuning pre-trained models, and model optimization techniques for image analytics tasks
- Demonstrated track record of successful projects or publications in the field of image analytics or computer vision
